$10 million is allocated for STEP each year beginning in budget 2016-17 and will support more than 3,000 summer work placements.
How does it work?
Join us for a presentation on STEP (Summer Temporary Employment Program) and how temporary students can help your business, while providing them with marketable, transferable skills for their future.
STEP will support students in obtaining employment by helping them gain work experience and build transferable skills, opening the door to the labour market.The program will subsidize wages paid by employers to encourage summer employment opportunities for students. STEP will support students in gaining valuable work experience and skill-building opportunities.
Who is eligible?
Eligible employers for STEP include:
- small businesses (1-49 employees)
- non-profit organizations
- municipalities
- First Nations, Métis Settlements
- publicly-funded post-secondary institutions
- school boards
The program is available for employees who are:
- a current and returning student 15 years or older;
- an Alberta resident; and
- Canadian citizens, permanent residents or refugees and individuals who are legally allowed to work in Canada. Temporary foreign workers are not eligible for the program.
